Squalane – The Skincare Mimicker

August 29, 2018

Hello my Beauties,

Guess what!? I’m going to NYFW!!! I’m so fricken excited to be back in NYC. The last time I was in NY was about 9 yrs ago, so I’m excited to be going back. Being the foodie that I am I have so many restaurants I wanna try there. Wish my stomach and I luck! If you have any restaurant recommendations, send them to @thebeautygirlreport on Insta lol

Food talk aside, I’m excited to be there during Fashion Week, I’m still trying to finalize a few shows. Also, I have to plan my WARDROBE! I’m not gonna lie, I’m a little scared, Like how is little ol’ me going to look next to all these TRUE Fashionistas?! IDK, I just gotta do it! I feel like I have let my insecurity rule my life enough, never again! (I hope) If all else fails, you can find me hiding out in the nearest bathroom, Lol! #awkwardaf

OK, on to skincare! Let’s talk Squalane.

Not to be mistaken with Squalene which is naturally occurring in human skin and its moisture process, it keeps skin hydrated. As you get into your 30s (like me… le sigh) squalene begins to decline in your skin.

-What is it-

Squalane is a weightless oil that is derived from various sources such as sugarcane, olives, wheat germ, and rice bran. It mimics skin sebum and sinks into the skin instantly. Historically it was derived from shark liver and was used to as a “Cure-all oil” for various wounds and bodily afflictions.

-What does it do-

“When squalane oil is applied to the skin, it mimics your natural sebum, improving elasticity by increasing moisture retention and nutrients.” (DERMSTORE.COM)

It is Extremely hydrating, Non-comedogenic, and antibacterial.

“Because it is non-comedogenic and lacks the oily residue, it will not clog your pores and has also shown to be as powerful as retinol when it comes to fighting free radicals and reversing damage caused by the sun.”

It also works incredibly for hair since it also mimics your hair’s natural sebum. It definitely helps with hair softness, hydration, shine, and helps seal ends, and protect from split ends.

For nails, Its great for cuticles and keeping nails from getting dehydrated from gels and acrylics.

Basically, it is the ULTIMATE hair, skin, and nails product!

-Why I like it-

So I have oily skin, and its hard for me to find an oil that doesn’t feel heavy on my skin. I really like the weightlessness of squalane. It’s almost weird how fast it gets absorbed into the skin when applied. I really love that it has so many uses and is good for all skin types and ages. Since adding Squalane into my skincare routine, I feel like my skin is definitely more hydrated and looks more radiant.
