SkinCare Tuesday: Scrub thy skin

August 25, 2015

Hey!

Scrubbing or exfoliating the skin is vital for healthy, glowing skin. There a couple different ways to exfoliate the skin, some examples include: brushing (think Clairsonic), scrubs, chemical peels with AHA or BHA, and a simple washcloth. Today, I am going to highlight The importance of scrubs.

Our skin is constantly shedding old skin cells, over time the build up of these old skin cells  causes dull skin, flaky skin, clogged pores which can lead to white heads or black heads, and texture  on the skin. So it is super important to regularly exfoliate the skin to sloth of dead skin cells and promote skin’s cell regeneration. Regular exfoliating of the skin, helps keeps your skin balanced, smooth, and glowing. It also help serums and moisturizer sink into the skin more effectively as now there is not layer of dead skin cells blocking their way.

Here are some of my favorite scrubs:

Scrubs

-Let’s discuss in detail-

Biore Pore Unclogging Scrub

This scrub is an awesome inexpensive option. My skin is combination oily/normal and not sensitive at all, so I actually use this every morning. It works great for those of us that have breakouts and  oily skin because it contains Salicylic Acid,  which is very effective at combatting the bacteria that causes break outs. This scrub can be found at all drugstores, target, Walmart, and Ulta.

Ole Henriksen Walnut Complexion Scrub

Ole Henriksen is renown for his amazing natural skincare products. This scrub is no exception.  I love it because it foams when wet. Something about the foaming makes me feel like my skin is getting really clean. (LOL!) This scrub contains-

“-Walnut powder: Mildly abrasive with cell renewing properties.
-Aloe vera gel: Moisturizing, calming, healing.
-Chamomile: Sedative, emollient, softening, soothing.
-Comfrey extract: An anti-inflammatory, astringent.” (sephora.com)
I use this 2-3 times a week, depending on what I am doing that week. It is very gentle and smells great. Ole Henriksen is available at Sephora.com or click HERE

Lush Dark Angels Scrub

This scrub is a great one for those of us who have sensitive skin and/or oily, problematic skin, because it is very gentle compared to the others.  Lush is an amazing company that uses all natural products, and I love it because it actually works.

Dark Angels contains: Rhassoul Mud, Organic Avocado Oil, Glycerine, Powdered Charcoal, Black Sugar, Sodium Lauroyl, Sarcosinate Perfume*Linalool, Sandalwood Oil, Rosewood Oil. Charcoal, mud, and black sugar are amazing exfoliatants and deep cleansers. Charcoal actually draws out oil and impurities. Avocado oil is extremely moisturizing. Also Sandalwood and Rose wood oil  has a “cooling effect and natural antiseptic” (Lush.com)

I will use this scrub interchangeably with my Ole Henriksen Scrub (2-3 times a week). Or  after a long day (say a wedding or night out) I will use it after cleansing my skin as a way to deep clean. Lush Dark Angels can be purchased at Lush stores or HERE

Last but definitely not least is, plain ol’ Sugar and Raw Honey

Really Raw Honey & sugar

Believe it or not, I am pretty sure this is my favorite one out of the bunch. I love this combo because it is so gentle and affordable! Honey is amazing for your skin. It is super moisturizing. It is a natural humectant, which means it draws out moisture from the air into you skin. It is naturally antibacterial and the enzymes that it contains is great for clarifying the skin and keeping pores clean yet still being super gentle and anti-inflammatory. A win for anyone with sensitive skin. Sugar is a great natural and gentle exfoliator. It doesn’t irritate the skin as many exfoliants do. Gently massaging sugar into your skin helps sloth off dead skin cells, rough patches, and enhances blood circulation. That is awesome for cell regeneration and increasing collagen production. I love using regular white sugar because I feel it is the most gentle

All you have to do is mix half a tablespoon of Raw Honey with a teaspoon of sugar

FullyRaw Honey

I love using this Really Raw honey because it contains little pieces of honeycomb so extra exfoliating properties.

So obviously, I am not an esthetician or a doctor, just a very passionate skincare enthusiast, so please be careful trying out new products. Always make sure to wear sunscreen and do not over scrub your skin because it can cause an adverse effect and damage your skin. Start by scrubbing once a week to see how your skin responds.

I hope you enjoyed this post. Any questions or comments, please let me know  below!

Stay Beautiful,

J <3
