Travel Diary: Greece part 1

November 2, 2016

Greece has always been on my bucket list of places to go, and this past weekend I can proudly check Greece off my list. This trip to Greece really took a lot of planning , so that is why I was MIA for a bit. I have always admired Greek History and Greek Mythology, so this trip was so exiting for me. Just to walk into the Acropolis (the old capital city), see the Parthenon, the Erchtheion, the Temple of Athena Nike, and the Theater of Dionysus, it was simply incredible . Not to mention, how truly delicious the food was.

We spent two days in Athens and three in Santorini.

Day 1-it was raining so hard, it really put a damper on this native SoCal’s girl exploring. We still explored and saw a lot of the city but I really wanted to save the Acropolis  for the next day went it hopefully wasn’t raining. We visited the Temple of Zeus, the Roman Agora, the Panathenaic Stadium, saw the changing of the guards in front of the Parliment building,  and went to the new  Acropolis Museum.

the Panathenaic Stadium  was originally built in the  6th century  and redone again in 144 ad. It is the only stadium in the world made entirely of marble.

The Roman Agora

The New Acropolis museum was crazy cool, because the floor to the museum is transparent. The reason for this is that, when digging began to build this museum, construction workers found an entire undiscovered city underground. Amazing!

Day 1 Outfit – I wanted to keep my outfits comfortable and suitable for walking  around all day, but still stylish. I found the easiest way to do that, especially when traveling is a loose dress,  favorite comfortable  kicks,  and color.  Somehow, this combo always works for me. I feel good and it fairly low maintenance.

Day 2

Waking up , first thing I did was run to the window and make sure it was a clear day. Yes! Acropolis Day! I can hardly contain my excitement. The Acropolis is the highest point in the city of Athens  and seriously awe inspiring.

Across from the Acropolis, the Apostle Paul stood and spoke on this rock. Incredible.

The food was on another level delicious.  This is just a little glimpse of the places we ate at. We had lunch at Kebabtzidikon Kir Aristos. The kebabs were so fresh and flavorful. One of our dinners was at a local favorite restaurant called Strofi which was incredible! I don’t think anything beats authentic Greek food and a beautiful of the Acropolis.  Of course, its not a trip to Greece unless you have Gyros.  We had reservations at Funky Gourmet which is a Michelin star restaurant, they really put a creative and modern spin about traditional greek cuisine. It was such a fun experience. Lastly, my favorite restaurant that we tried in Athens is this little place that our taxi driver insisted that we try; Taverna To Trigono. We were the only non greeks in the restaurant which only adds to the experience. LOL!  This place WAS THE BEST GREEK FOOD I HAVE EVER HAD!! Hands Down!
