Velvet Lips Review

January 12, 2017

Hello Everyone,

I hope everyone has been having a good week. It has been a crazy busy week here. It’s my daughter’s 3rd birthday on Sunday and It’s very bittersweet. I cannot believe it’s already 3 years! As cliché as it seems, it  was like it was just yesterday that I brought her home from the hospital. And now she’s 3 going on 30 surprising me everyday with her intelligence and uniqueness. Ahhhh—- {must control sappy feelings!!}

Soo… the dry crusty liquid lips days are over and thank God  for that!  Velvet lips are the new thing and seriously I cannot be more thankful. I have super dry lips, so not all  matte liquid lipsticks work out for me (Dose of Colors and Some Anastasia BH lipsticks being the exception)  So when the higher-end brands adopted liquid lip trend and tried to make them more wearable and comfy,calling them velvet lips,  I was very intrigued.  Velvet lips are supposed to be a hybrid between lipstick, gel, creme, liquid lipstick. They are not all the way matte, more like a natural finish. So, let’s try out some out.

First off are the Nars Velvet Lip Glide in Bound and Unspeakble

Bound is a muted rose-pink
Unspeakable is a reddish berry

{What it is}
“An innovative, long-lasting lip color with a smooth, semi-matte finish that provides ultimate hydration.
This highly-saturated lip color combines covetable comfort and confident shades in one smooth move. Its wand coats like a lipstick, yet glides on like a gloss. The finish is semi-matte, long-lasting, and non-drying for luscious, vibrant lips. Water lily flowers and white tea extract are infused into this hybrid lip glide for antioxidant protection and ultimate hydration.” (Sephora.com)

{First impressions}
Color and pigment was on point, Not streaky. One swipe applied an even coat of color. It felt very light on lips and comfortable. Both colors felt very creamy on lips.

{Wear}
Both Bound and Unspeakable lasted about 4 hours until it started to fade. The entire time my lips felt very moisturized and comfortable. My only issue is that I felt like the product never really dried down to where it was transfer-free

Georgio Armani Lip Maestro

Color is 202 which is a warm nude pink.

{First Impressions}
This felt and glided on like a lip gloss. It went on very smoothly and pigmentation was really good. Felt very creamy and comfortable on lips. It dried down to a comfortable natural matte.

{Wear}
Lip Maestro lasted a good 6 hours on me and even left a little bit of stain. My lips never felt dry or uncomfortable. It was like I had a balm on the whole time, except every time I checked the mirror I would see this beautiful color on them. LOL

Marc Jacobs Le Marc Liquid Lip Creme

Color 460 Hot Cocoa- a very warm cinnamon cocoa

{First Impressions}
This felt and applied the most like a liquid lipstick. Fully opaque in one swipe and very smooth. This dried down to a very light satin finish.

{Wear}
Le Marc lip creme lasted about 5 hours on me, It wore extremely comfortable and moisturizing. It dried down to a full matte and was  transfer free, which I loved! It wore exactly like a liquid lipstick but felt very soft and non drying on the lips.

If I had to pick my favorite out of these I think I would pick the Armani Lip Maestro. However, to be honest I really liked them all for different reasons. They were all very comfortable, smooth on the lips, and looked great. I loved the natural finish, it felt like a fresh  and modern compared to the usual matte or glossy lips.
